By 23 June 2021No Comments

The AWSA is pleased to inform its winter sport community that the Army has granted a green light to forge ahead with the planning and preparation of all winter sport activity for a full 2021/22 season with immediate effect. The following was agreed:

  • We aspire to a full season. All 8 disciplines. End to end (Corps to Inter-Services). We are to optimise for novices; geared for Army and Defence competition.
  • We can now fix accommodation and signal early Army/Corps intent to our in-resort partners, sponsors, and our soldiers.
  • We have secured an agreement to commit funds to make the first stage payments of the 6 x AWSA contracts to secure the in-resort accommodation.
  • Finally, we have secured an agreement for a final ’go/no go’ date of Wed 13 Oct 21. This will enable us to reassess the COVID situation within the UK and better understand the climate across Europe.

At this stage, we may only commit finances in line with our staged payment contractual obligations, but Corps and units may now commence planning for their season with confidence.

Further work to understand the authorisation of Exercises process will be conducted with the ASCB, details will be promulgated in due course.
