INTRODUCTION TO SNOWBOARD
Army Snowboarding has been established for 11 years and each season attracts greater a number of soldiers participating, 70% of our participants are under the age of 25.
The Army Snowboarding Championships caters for experienced and novice riders alike and is focussed on 3 disciplines: Slalom, Boarder X and Freestyle.
The championships are held on the Stubai Glacier, Austria, under the exercise name EX SNOW JACK 11 (click the link for more info). This season they will be conducted over the period 26 Nov – 17 Dec 11. Click the following link to View the Results (Ex SNOW JACK) Stubaital AUT .

KEY PERSONALITIES
It is not surprising that the young and not so young of many nations have taken to the sport in their hundreds of thousands. Many potential Army recruits as well as those serving have already mastered its land based counterpart -skateboarding. The sport achieved Olympic status at Nagano 98. It can not be long before the AWSA has its first Olympic snowboarder.

Colonel Richard Bennett commissioned into the Corps of REME in 1985, after being educated at Wellington College and theUniversity of Kent. Early assignments included command of 29 Commando Regiment LAD and then 8 Field Workshop. He was appointed as Equerry to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh in 2001 and subsequently commanded 1 Battalion REME in Osnabruckduring which he deployed to Iraq as Comd ES on Op TELIC 5. SO1 J3/J5 in HQ Senior British Military Advisor USCENTCOM followed, where he was involved in UK/US planning for ISAF expansion inAfghanistan. Appointment asRegimental Colonel REME in 2006, he was responsible for recruiting and manning policy in the Corps and the enhancement of Corps ethos. He assumed his current post as Comd ES 3 (UK) Div in Dec 2008. He has a wide range of sporting interests, including swimming, tennis and several winter sports disciplines, however after first learning to snowboard in 2000 he is now a firmly committed rider whose enthusiasm for the sport has continued to grow since assuming the role of Chairman Army Snowboarding Association in 2009.
